Flies Control Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, East AngliaFlies come in many varities, but probably the most commonly experienced are Houseflies, Bluebottles and Cluster flies.

Houseflies lay eggs in rotting household rubbish and compost heaps. The female can lay approximately 800 eggs during her short life of about two months.

Bluebottles lay eggs on decomposing flesh and therefore can be an indicator of a dead mammal or bird nearby possibly in the house itself. Because Bluebottles are not fussy about where they settle prior to coming into your home, flying from filth to food, they can easily transmit diseases such as cholera, gastroenteritis, salmonella, and possibly worms.

Cluster flies lay their eggs in the soil where their larva seeks out earthworms where they feed. They then pupate, hatch and emerge from the ground. During late autumn/early winter they look for somewhere warm to hibernate through the winter. They do this in large numbers and often gather in the loft space of houses, occasionally emerging indoors during a warm spell.

Control: For houseflies and bluebottles, knockdown sprays are effective and immediate; however pesticides should never be used in food preparation areas so the use of sticky traps or EFK's (electric fly killers) can be employed. For cluster flies, the most effective control is the use of ULV (ultra low volume) machines which pump a fine mist into the environment of the loft space.
